Souper Bowl Event

Souper Bowl Event
Join us for a fun evening of fellowship and service as we unite to help end hunger at this football themed event. Got a winning soup or chili recipe? Sign up to enter your recipe (or grandma’s – nobody will know) and/or bring a dessert or appetizer to share. Bring 1 printed copy of your recipe to the event to share. We’ll have hot dogs, bread, and all the toppings you can imagine for soup or chili. Be sure to wear your favorite team attire – jerseys, hats, t-shirts, sweaters, etc.
Pick up cans of soup at the store to donate to the food pantry. Let’s see how many cans we can collect! Monetary donations can also be made at the event. We’ll start with a fun game in the gathering space. Then, we’ll see who’s got the award-winning recipe. You’ll get to taste and vote for your favorite recipes.
Contact Shanna Green with any questions: shanna_jarvis@hotmail.com. We hope to see you there!

Christmas Eve Offering

Ashe County Partnership for Children

The Ashe County Partnership for Children supports the local community by providing resources for children and families in need. In collaboration with HUMC’s Stepping Stones Preschool, the partnership is helping replace essential classroom materials that were lost during Hurricane Helene. This special initiative is supported by our preschoolers, who have been fundraising all month. As a gesture of support, the Missions Committee has designated half of this year’s Christmas Eve offering to go toward this important project. If you’d like to contribute, you can see the handprints of those who have already donated, displayed at the top of the ramp.

Harrisburg Crisis Assistance Ministry Food Pantry

For many years, HUMC has partnered with the Harrisburg Crisis Assistance Ministry (HCAM) to address food insecurity in our community. The need continues to grow, but through your generosity, the Food Pantry is able to do more than provide food — it offers hope, dignity, and a reminder that no one has to face life’s challenges alone. Every bag of groceries distributed and every warm smile shared makes a tangible difference. Your support—whether through financial donations, volunteer efforts, or spreading the word—helps turn compassion into action, nourishing both bodies and hearts, and strengthening our community.

Blue Christmas Service

The Blue Christmas service is designed especially for those of us who may not be feeling particularly merry and bright this season. While others are caught up in the whirlwind of holiday preparations and celebrations, those who are feeling a bit “blue” can often feel edged out or forgotten. This service aims to provide comfort and hope, reminding us that we are not alone.

Tonight, we will share in reflective music, listen to Bible readings, and participate in a Litany of Remembrance. Together, we’ll light candles, engage in prayer, and spend time in silent reflection. Following the service, Stephen Ministers will be available to speak or pray with anyone who wishes. Each family will also receive the devotional book Blue Christmas: Devotions of Light in a Season of Darkness by Todd Outcalt.

All are welcome to join us.

Trunk or Treat. Oct. 27, 4 p.m.

Harrisburg UMC has been sponsoring a Trunk or Treat for many years. To sum up what happens at Trunk or Treat, participants decorate the trunks of their cars with a theme and stock the trunk  with candy. The vehicles are lined up in the church parking lot and kids trick or treat from trunk to trunk.  Trunk or treat provides a safe environment for trick-or-treaters, and involves the whole family to have fun.  Along with trunk or treating, there’ll be hot dogs, games, and an outdoor movie.

We invite you to put on your costume and join the fun. Bring you friends and neighbors.

Sunday, October 27th, 4 – 6:30 pm.
